چکیده
Flexible deformation of the insect wing has been proven to be beneficial lift generation and power consumption. There is great potential for shared research between natural insects bio-inspired Flapping Micro Aerial Vehicles (FWMAVs) performance enhancement. However, aerodynamic characteristics process flexible flapping wing, especially influenced by membrane material, are still lacking in-depth understanding. In this study, wings with different materials have experimentally investigated. Power input force were measured evaluate influence material. The rotation angles at sections extracted analyze process. It was found that higher elastic modulus could generate more but cost power. A lower means shows an advantage in loading. Twisting obvious flexibility. Additionally, flexibility also attenuate angle fluctuation, which turn enhances efficiency. paper helpful further understand design FWMAVs performance.

Effects of Ipsilateral Wing-Wing Interactions on Aerodynamic Performance of Flapping Wings
Dragonflies are masters of using the ipsilateral wing-wing interaction for different kinds of flying modes. It has been discovered that the phase difference between ipsilateral forewings and hindwings plays important role on wing aerodynamic performance. In the current study, we continue our research of a modeled dragonfly in slow flight (Liang and Dong (2009)) by varying the phase difference b...
متن کاملUnsteady aerodynamic forces of a flapping wing.
The unsteady aerodynamic forces of a model fruit fly wing in flapping motion were investigated by numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equations. The flapping motion consisted of translation and rotation [the translation velocity (u(t)) varied according to the simple harmonic function (SHF), and the rotation was confined to a short period around stroke reversal]. First, it was shown that for a...
متن کاملThe Effect of a Gust on the Flapping Wing Performance
The effect of a wind gust on the aerodynamic characteristics of a rigid wing undergoing insect-based flapping motion is studied numerically. The turbulent flow near the flapping wing is described by the 3-D unsteady compressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. The governing equations are solved using a second-order node-centered finite volum...
متن کاملThe aerodynamic benefit of wing-wing interaction depends on stroke trajectory in flapping insect wings.
Flying insects may enhance their flight force production by contralateral wing interaction during dorsal stroke reversal ('clap-and-fling'). In this study, we explored the forces and moments due to clap-and-fling at various wing tip trajectories, employing a dynamically scaled electromechanical flapping device. The 17 tested bio-inspired kinematic patterns were identical in stroke amplitude, st...
متن کاملPassive Wing Rotation in Flexible Flapping Wing Aerodynamics
Insect wings are flexible. For rigid wings lift enhancing unsteady aerodynamics mechanisms, such as delayed stall via leading-edge vortices (LEVs), wake-capture, and rotational forces, characterize the lift generation of a hovering insect. We have uncovered a novel mechanism that fruit fly size insects can utilize to further increase the lift by adjusting its wing shape passively: A pair of a L...
